Penang State Mosque is located at the junction of Ayer Itam Road and Jalan Masjid Negeri on a 4.5 ha land area. It was built in the 1970s and completed in 1980.
Penang State Mosque was designed by Oscar Niemeyer, a Brazilian and has a mixture of Malay and modern western architecture. Its main prayer hall can accomodate about 5,000 worshippers at a time. It has a minaret usually with speakers installed at the top so that people can hear the call for prayers. This mosque is has a different entrance for men and ladies. Opening time is hrs and closing time is hrs. Entrance is free. |
