East Coast of Tioman Island is not as popular as the west coast. This is because it is the only village on the east coast which is very much exposed to the conditions of South China Sea.

There is a jungle track from Tekek to Juara. The road that leads to this track is just a short distance north of the airport in Tekek. This jungle track starts near a mosque. It took me about 1 hour and 30 minutes to jungle-trek from Tekek to the T-junction that meets the road for vehicles. During this jungle trekking journey which goes uphill, you should pass the water catchment area.

From this T-junction onwards, its a car road. This took me about another 1 hours to reach Juara. Some people told me it's very near, just 1 hour to reach Juara, some said 2 hours. My total time of about 2 hours and 30 minutes is a good judge for a normal person who seldom exercise. Actually, I detour to a waterfall during this section of the walk. This very small waterfall is less than 5 minutes walk from the main road.

Upon entering Juara's beach area, there are a few shophouses kind of restaurant. Turn right to go to TAT Turtle Sanctuary, a turtle hatchery project. To protect the eggs, the people there will patrol the beach during midnight to see if there are any turtle laying eggs on the beach. If yes, they would collect them and put them in an enclosed area in TAT Turtle Sanctuary. Walk down further and at the end is an area for camping and has canoes for rent. 'II II OO' was written on the road.

I trekked to Juara alone. I found it a pretty safe jungle to trek as what most of Tioman people said. I did not see any animals around except 1 or 2 'biawak' or monitor lizards. Like any jungle, one of the most feared creatures is the snake. Luckily, I did not meet any. Because of this and also I do not want to trek after 3 pm, I decided to hire a ride to Tekek. It cost me about RM35 for the motorbike ride but I think you can get it at RM30 if you ask the right person. I did not want the jeep ride because minimum is about RM60.

Oh yes, I forgot to try sms from inside the jungle but I think sms can work because the handphone signal was still ok, about half of the optimal signal inside the jungle. One word of advice for trekking this jungle, just follow the electric cable. Animals usually would have finished their morning meal by 10 am and therefore would be good time to trek. Day creatures may feed again about 5 pm to sun down and therefore not a good time to trek after 5 pm. Also, it may be dark and you cannot see.

Lastly, kindly help keep this place clean by throwing your rubbish into proper places. This is a Marine Park and therefore tourists are not allowed to take or catch any marine things, dead or alive. Some other activities NOT permitted are pollute the water, use fishing gears, touch or step on corals.
