Jetty Shahbandar | State Cultural Centre | Makmur Express Bus Terminal | |||||||||||||
Kuantan is the capital of Pahang State. It has very few places to visit. I visited Kuantan on Saturday, a bad day to visit because the Museum Tokoh, cultural centre and tourism information centre was closed. So, nothing much to say.
I stayed near Makmur Express Bus Terminal and walked to Sultan Ahmad Shah Mosque area. In front of the mosque is a big field. The State's High Court, Session Court and Magistrate Court are just next to the mosque, on its right side. The Tokoh Museum which is closed on Saturday is just next to the court house. There is also a tourism information centre its compound of Tokoh Museum. There is a small fountain which looks like a shell outside the toilet beside the field. The esplanade is not far from here. Esplanade Kuantan is a 2 km stretch of Kuantan River bank near the river mouth. It is believed that this place was the earliest settlement in Kuantan by traders from a district in Sumatera called Kuantan. It has a small graveyard area near the jetty, just by the roadside. Now, it is s popular place for locals to fish, tourists to go for cruises and food stall for tourist to try local food. The cruise counter is at Jetty Shahbandar. The cruise operator here has a trip to see fireflies around Belat River every Sunday at 8 pm. However, they want at least 10 people before the procede with the cruise. So, call them early. I guess you can ask them if you have 10 people even on other days. I did not go because there was not enough people to make a trip. On Sunday morning before leaving to Kuala Terengganu, I went to look for the state cultural centre. I dont know why I went into a hotel and asked the receptionist there for its location. She told me and pointed to an area beside Vistana Hotel, opposite of her budget hotel. I thought she was wrong because the map that I have showed it in other area, much further than where she pointed. So I kept walking until I reached the location stated in the map. No cultural centre there only a big public garden area for jogging and resting with a children's playground. Guess about 4 km for nothing. Then I went to the place the receptionist to me and found out that she was right. Really stupid of me for not walking there first. Makmur Express Bus Terminal is behind the stadium and has a big field infront of it. It is a good location because supermarkets, coffee shops and fast food outlets can be easily found. Lastly, kindly help keep this place clean by throwing your rubbish into proper places. |
