Adat Perpatih or Perpatih Custom is the custom practiced by the Negeri Sembilan people only. Other states in Malaysia do not practice this custom. One practiced custom is the matrilineal system. Their assets are in the hands of their women.

During the Ethnic Pesta on Perpatih Custom, you can hear that their Malay language also has a slang. Actually, the Malay language in different states might sound a little different from each other. Example of part of a song in video format.

One easily distinctive feature of this custom is the traditional attire especially the lady's attire. The lady's attire consists of a embroidered buffalo horn-shaped headdress, a large embroidered velvet shoulder cover and a long straight cut shirt covering her sarong. Negeri Sembilan is divided into a few 'luak' which is something like districts and have their own cuntoms which may be differ a little. During the Ethnic Pesta in 2011, there were a few demonstrations by the different ethnic groups.Some examples are 'Tepak Sirih Packing' by Luak Rembau, 'Weaving of Ketupat' by Luak Sungei Ujong, Indigenious People Marriage Custom and a few others which I did not get to see because I had to return home.

To me, their food taste and looked almost the same as the Malay food of other states. Malay food is mostly hot and spicy. During the Ethnic Pesta on Perpatih Custom, the different ethnics or districts demonstrated the cooking style, show the ingredients to visitors and also gave some photocopies of their recipies to visitors. Then the food was given to visitors for tasting.
