Penang Putu Mayong & Putu Piring (Indian)
Putu Mayong is is made from thick rice batter added with some pandan 'juice' and pressed through a hand held sieve like tool. The outcome is a something very thin like 'bee hoon' but even thinner. It is served and eaten with brown sugar and coconut on top of it. Usually one packet (about 3 pieces) is normally RM1.00 (year 2013 price). 
Putu Piring is also made from rice flour and and steam into a shape like a very small saucer. Putu piring is more fine like flour and has 'Gula Melaka' inside it. It is served with brown sugar and coconut too. Usually 2 putu piring is normally RM1.00 (year 2013 price). Putu Mayong and Putu Piring are more of a tea time food. They can be quite filling because I can take just RM1.00 of each for my dinner. These food are not easily found but can be found near Pulau Tikus market in the morning. |
