Penang Asam Laksa is a popular food in Penang. It is more of an appetiser because it is 'hot' (caused by chili) and sour (caused by assam). However, people in Penang can take it as a 'meal' itself during lunch or dinner.

Then the fish is de-boned and put back into the soup together with other many blended spices. The ingredients added to the noodles are pineapple, thinly sliced and chopped cucumber, peppermint leaves and 'bunga kantan'. 'Belacan' or prawn paste is added to get the taste.
