Creative Commons Licences
The notes below were taken from About Licences at Creative Commons site. As it is quite a simplified article, there is nothing much for me to summarised. So, I will give the four main conditions which may be combined to make a licence. The four main conditions are : 1. Attribution : You let others copy, distribute, display, and perform your copyrighted work — and derivative works based upon it — but only if they give credit the way you request. 2. Noncommercial : You let others copy, distribute, display, and perform your work — and derivative works based upon it — but for noncommercial purposes only. 3. No Derivative Works : You let others copy, distribute, display, and perform only verbatim copies of your work, not derivative works based upon it. 4. Share Alike : You allow others to distribute derivative works only under a license identical to the license that governs your work. Creative Commons has six main licences which were combined from some of the four conditions above. 1. Attribution : The logo for this licence looks like this. 2. Attribution Non-Commercial : The logo for this licence looks like this. 3. Attribution No Derivatives : The logo for this licence looks like this. 4. Attribution Share Alike : The logo for this licence looks like this. 5. Attribution Non-Commercial Share Alike : The logo for this licence looks like this. This license lets others remix, tweak, and build upon your work non-commercially, as long as they credit you and license their new creations under the identical terms. Others can download and redistribute your work just like the by-nc-nd license, but they can also translate, make remixes, and produce new stories based on your work. All new work based on yours will carry the same license, so any derivatives will also be non-commercial in nature. 6. Attribution Non-Commercial No Derivatives : The logo for this licence looks like this. This license is the most restrictive of our six main licenses, allowing redistribution. This license is often called the “free advertising” license because it allows others to download your works and share them with others as long as they mention you and link back to you, but they can’t change them in any way or use them commercially. |
