Weld Quay is where the Ferry Terminal in Penang Island is located. It is called Pengkalan Raja Tun Uda. The terminal in Butterworth is called Pengkalan Sultan Abdul Halim. This ferry service started in 1920 and has been servicing these two terminal since, though there was once when the Sultan AbdulHalim terminal bridge collapsed in 1988. In the early 20th century when there was no Penang Bridge, this ferry service was the only way to travel across the channel apart from other smaller boats or sampan. The Custom Clock Tower, old landmark, can be easily seen when coming to this ferry terminal. It was part of the old railway headquarters in Penang. Now, there are eight ferries servicing these two terminals. The are called Pulau Angsa, Pulau Kapas, Pulau Payar, Pulau Pinang, Pulau Rawa, Pulau Rimau, Pulau Talang-Talang and Pulau Undan. There is a docking area for personal boats next to it called Tanjung City Marina. However, there are not many boats there as Penang people are not keen on boating and the cost of having one may be too high for most people in Penang. The first row photo shows the ferry terminal taken from the Church Street Pier. The ferry takes lorries, cars, motorbikes, bicycles and 'walking people'. The fare is not cheap, almost like the bridge but for walking people, the fare is about RM1.00. This place is not a popular tourist destination except for tourists who want to cross over to Butterworth or take public bus. If not mistaken, the ferry does not operate 24 hours. So, if you want to cross over to Butterworth, kindly take note of the terminal operation time. Lastly, kindly "Keep Penang Clean".		Coming events - none
