There is one temple along Jalan Masjid Kapitan Keling called the Sri Mariamman Temple. I think the main entrance is facing Queen Street as shown in the left top row photo. The opening hours are 8:00 am to 12 noon and 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
Sri Mariamman Temple was built in 1833. It is dedicated to Goddess Mariamman. Usually in Mariamman temple, statue of other gods such as Murugan can be seen. Apart from this, there is Chettiars' Building at Penang Street (2 streets behind Queen St from Pitt Street), where statue of Lord Murugan is place during normal day. However, this is a building and not a temple, if I am not mistaken. Therefore, people do not get to go inside to pray. This will be opened during Thaipusam day when they take out Lord Murugan statue. The left top row photo shows Sri Mariamman Temple facing Queen Street and the right top row photo shows Sri Mariamman Temple facing Jalan Masjid Kapitan Keling. The left second row photo shows Chettiar's Building at Penang Street. Opening time for morning session is 0600 hrs and closing time for morning session is 1145 hrs. Opening time for afternoon session is 1800 hrs and closing time for afternoon session is 2100 hrs. Entrance is free. Donation will be appreciated. |
