To celebrate this occation, Penang held a 'open day' on the 26-Jul-2008 for people to see the historic cultural places. During this celebration many temples / 'kongsi' held 'open house' and perform some cultural shows / presentations. These 'open house' will be mentioned in other pages.

The main function was held at Padang Kota Lama. A stage show on Penang History during the British occupation were presented with some scenes on the settlers that came in and Penang Riot. Fireworks were fired as usual. Then there were other stage shows, cultural dresses show and some songs presentation. These were about all for this celebration.

I think the most important show in this event was the historical presentation which showed how the multi racial with mixed race (partly because it is a port) and multi religious city was formed. Also, the temples, mosque and church that are still standing in a small area in Georgetown show its cultural side and I guess helped George Town got listed as a historic city. So, Georgetown will have to maintain its unity in differences, its 'old' structures (though they are very 'young' compared to other places in the world), traditions and cultures brought by their ancestors when they settled in Penang.

Congratulations to George Town and all its people who helped made it to the Heritage Listing. And yes, as usual, kindly help keep Penang clean.
