Batu Maung area is situated in Bayan Lepas area, south Penang Island. There are a few interesting places in Batu Maung like War Museum and a temple by the sea.
The temple by the sea is just a small temple called San Pao Kung. It is open to all and entrance is free. The joss sticks are free too but kindly donate some money, RM1.00 is more than enough if you decided to pray. The 'beach' there is actually a small 'port' for fishing boats, I guess. So this 'beach' area is not a place for people to go for picnics. So, Batu Maung is NOT worth going all the way to south-east of Penang Island just to see this temple unless you don't mind paying a few ringgits to enter the War Museum which is not far from the temple. Anyway, for those who decided to travel here, remember to go Teluk Kumbar which is not far from here and has nicer beaches. The left last row photo shows a temple located along the the road which lead into San Pao Kung. The right last row photo shows the entrance into the War Museum. The War Museum entrance fee is not cheap, RM15.00 for Malaysians and RM25.00 for foreigners, if not mistaken. Opening time is hrs and closing time is hrs. Entrance fee is RM (year 2013 price). |
