Penang Roti Jala / Net Bread
Rotating Logos

Roti Jala is a Malay food. Direct translation to English means Net Bread. It is made of thick wheat batter, I guess and pressed through a special hand held sieve onto a hot plate. See the photo on the top left. It is cooked then folder in any how you like and served with some brown sugar 'sauce' mixed with a little 'santan', I guess. See top right photo.

The price of one small plate is normally RM0.80 to RM1.00 (year 2013 price). This food can be taken as a main course because it is served with rendang, a Malay curry. Therefore, it is seldom found in coffee shops. It is usually sold by road-sides stalls with motorbike.

Recently, in Oct-2013, I bought Roti Jala from an Indian stall. She sold and is still selling Roti Jala (6 pieces) with vegetable pickles, potato and Indian curry chicken called Vindalo. The price she sold me was RM6.00. See second row photo.
