Penang Ikan / Sotong Bakar (Malay)
Ikan is fish. Bakar means burn, more like grill. Here in Penang, the fish is mostly marinated with some seasoning and wrapped with pandan leave or aluminium sheet before putting it on top of metal rod for grilling.
Sotong is cuttlefish. Usually, the cuttlefish which is used for 'Sotong Bakar' bakar is already cooked. Before it is sold, cooked cuttlefish has to be rolled through a 'Roller' to make it thinner and barbecue it just to warm it up. The sauce used for this food / dish is chilied prawn paste. Sotong Bakar is more of a appetiser. One small plate is normally RM7.00 (year 2013 price).
