Penang Tua Pek Kong Celebration / Flaming Ceremony / Chneah Hoay |
Back |
Penang Tua Pek Kong Celebration is held 2 / 3 times a year. The most important part in this celebration is the 'Flaming Ceremony' ('chneah hoay') which will start with prayer at about 2pm to 'chneah hoay'. Then 'Tua Pek Kong' will be taken to Hai Choo Soo temple. In the evening at around 11pm, another 'chneah hoay' ceremony will be held there. The 'Tua Pek Kong' will be taken back to its temple along Armenian Street the next day. If not mistaken, the 'intensity' of the flame shows the 'luck' for a certain time of the year. In 2007, this celebration was held on the 03-Mar-07, 14th day of Chinese New Year.
This celebration starts with prayer by devotees in the morning at 11am, flaming ceremony ('chneah hoay') in the afternoon at 2pm followed by procession from Hock Teik Cheng Sin Temple along Armenian Street to Hai Choo Soo Temple in Tanjung Tokong. The route starts from the temple along Armenian street to Jln Mesjid Kapitan Keling, Lebuh China, Lebuh Pantai, Gat Lebuh Chulia, Lebuh Victoria, Gat Jln Prangin, Pengkalan Weld, Gat Lbh Noordin, Jln CY Choy and Jln Magazine.
