Penang Jade Emperor Celebration is celebrated at night on the 08th day of Chinese New Year. Many people to go Thnee Kong Temple (see phohots) pray on the 08th and 09th day of Chinese New Year.

Many will pray at home at night on the 08th day. Two sugar cane will be put at the side of the prayer table outside the house in the compound. The foods offered are 'Thnee Kong piah', 'ang koo', 'huat koay', 'tnee koay', 'bee ko' and minimum 5 types of fruits like pineapple, 'kam', pomelo, banana and apple.

The day is celebrated by a group of ethnic people because history stated that those people were unharmed from an attack when they hid in the sugar cane field. I think they were a little stupid because they cut down their hiding place to offer to their 'god'. Guess that's their reminder of their 'victory' from an attack and the crops would have to be cut down for consumption anyway. I think their attacker was quite good because they didn't cut nor burn their crops down. It must be a small quarrel or misunderstanding. Or maybe it was during New Year time.
