Penang Kau Ong Ia Celebration is celebrated on the 1st to nineth day of nineth month of Chinese Lunar calendar. During these nine days, devotees will take vegetable food only. On the day before the 1st day of 9th month chinese calendar, they will 'invite' the gods from the sea to their temples. On the nineth day itself, some of them might send the nine emperors back to sea.

Frankly speaking, I do not know much about his except this is a month where people/devotees take vegetarian food only. The left 1st row photo shows some of the famous vegetarian 'food' that is sold during this time only. The right top photo shows one kao ong ia temple at Lebuh Macallum.

Depending on the events organised by the temples, some temples will have procession along their area on one of the nine days. The left 2nd row photo is one of the gods that will accompany the boat during procession. The right 2nd row photo shows a float during the sending-off procession.

The left 3rd row photo is the boat that will be sent out to sea. The right 2nd row photo shows a man possessed by 'Loh Chia Kong' sitting on the float during the sending-off procession. The left last row photo shows the boat that accompanied the kao ong ia's boat in the sea. The right last row photo shows another temple at Burma Road.
