Terengganu is a state located on the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia. Its latitute coordinate is about 4o45'N and longitude coordinate is about 103o'E. Terengganu has population of about 1 million (2006 estimates) with about 95% Malays, 2.6% chinese and 0.2% indians. Majority of its people speaks Bahasa Malaysia / Malay language with some speaking English. Most of the places of interest in Pahang are nature oriented and cultural places.

Terengganu has a land area of 12,995 km2. The Main Range (Titiwangsa Range) passes through the western side of Terengganu. This made Terengganu rich in flora, fauna and also natural ecological structures like caves, lakes, waterfalls and rivers. The jungle consists of Tropical Rainforest, Recreational forest and Mangroves forest. Terengganu has a man-made lake called Lake Kenyir which is said to be the biggest in South East Asia.

Kuala Terengganu is the capital and also the royal town of Terengganu. It is located around the mouth of Terengganu River facing South China Sea. Due to this, it faces the North-East monsoon from November to March. During this monsoon season, I would recommend you to visit the western side of Terengganu like the National Park and Lake Kenyir.

Kuala Terengganu has a number of budget hotels in the centre of its town. They can range from about RM30 to about RM70 per room per night. I guess accommodation should not be a problem of very small group travellers and tourists. I have stayed in 2 budget hotels and I found them ok. One is the Ping Anchorage Travellers Inn and another is Terengganu Hotel. Both fan type rooms cost about RM35 to RM40.

Terengganu does not have railway passing through it. Its state airport, Sultan Mahmud Airport is located on the west of Kuala Terengganu. Tourists can take the heritage bus C03 that goes to UMT/UDM. It costs RM2 to go there.

The Kuala Terengganu Bus Terminal caters mainly for the express bus and interdistrict bus. Their heritage buses starts from Dataran Shahbandar and go to tourism places such as Duyung Island, Wan Man Island for the Islamic Civilisation Park, Tengku Zaharah Mosque and Batik Factory. Taxis could be seen waiting near bus stands in Kuala Terengganu Bus Terminal.

Terengganu has many jetties for passengers to go to its marine park. Shahbandar Jetty, Merang Jetty, Marang Jetty, Kuala Besut Jetty and Kuala Dungun Jetty. The fast boat cost about RM70 for 2-way trip.

Nature lovers and eco-tourist can get away to the National Park on the western part of Terengganu. During the South-West monsoon, tourists are encourage to visit Redang Marine Park or many of Terengganu's beaches such as Batu Burok Beach and Rantau Abang.

I stayed in Terengganu for 3 nights. Tried many of its local food. I was lucky that on the night I reached there, they have the Agriculture Produce Show at Dataran Shahbandar. I ate their sata, otak-otak, deep-fried mushroom, keropok lekor and ice-cream bun for dinner. On one morning, I tried many kuih which I do not and cannot remember their names. I bought them from the Payang Big Market.

Lastly, if you were to visit any where in Tereangganu, kindly keep the places clean by throwing your rubbish into rubbish bins.
