Kuching is capital of Sarawak State. It is located on the western side of Sarawak state. Kuching is near the South China Sea with the Sarawak River passing through it.

Kuching is the Malay word for cat. There are a few statues (or monuments) of cats in Kuching town. One is the Cat Statue on a small round-about at Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman near the Riverbank Suites (See top left photograph). There is another called Great Cat of Kuching further up near travillion. So, when you visit Kuching, you must take a least a photograph of you with any statue of cats.

Public transportation in Kuching is bearable if not good. There are a few main bus terminals all very near each other. Maybe the different places are for buses going to different areas in Sarawak. One is near the Kuching Divisional Mosque where I took a bus to Kuching International Airport. The bus which I took did not enter the airport area and I have to walk about one km from the drop-off place to the airport. The other bus terminal is at the open air market area.

Kuching has a few places of interest. There are a few museums in Kuching old-town centre such as Chinese History Museum, Textile Museum, Natural History Museum, Art Museum and the Sarawak Museum. I did not visit the Tun Abdul Razak Hall and Islamic Museum because it was getting late and I have not taken my food yet.

Kuching old-town has a number of worship places such as chinese temples and mosque. Popular temples are the Tua Pek Kong temple and Hong San Si temple. There is one big mosque called Kuching Divisional Mosque, a church caled St Thomas Cathedral and a Sikh temple.

Other places of interest which I did not visit are the Cat Museum, Astana and the Fort Margherita because they are on the opposite side of the river bank.
