Precinct 1 in Putrajaya is the main area in Putrajaya because this is where the Prime Minister's Building called Perdana Putra is located. Perdana Putra was completed in early 1999. Perdana Putra is situated on a small hill slope, about 50m above sea level and has Mogul-Islamic design with western influences such as palladian and neoclassicism. It has many halls, viewing points, delegation room, VIP room and hall, National Security Division office and National Economic Action Council office.
Apart from this beautiful structure, there is Putra Mosque. It is situated next to Perdana Putra and by the side of Putrajaya Lake. This makes it look like floating on water. Putra Mosque has a middle-eastern and Egyptian design. Its mineret is 116m tall and has 5 tiers. It can take 15,000 worshippers, has library, muzeum for Al-Quran manuscript, exhibition hall and seminar room. There is one eating area called the Selera Putra Food Hall next to the Putra Mosque. It is situated between Putra Mosque and Putra Bridge. It has a few stalls selling drinks and some food. Lake cruise can also be taken from an operator near this mall. The big space infront of these 3 buildings is called Putra Square or Dataran Putra. And not to forget the Putra Bridge that connects Precinct 1 and Precinct 2 of Putrajaya. It has a length as 435m and 4 octagonal towers with observation decks inspired by Islamic architecture. It was built using concrete. I call this place Putra Perdana Area because Putra Perdana Park is located behind the Perdana Putra Building. This park has a 2 km jogging pathway and pedestrian walkway surrounded by trees. There is a Megalith area to show some megalith that were found in 1989 at Kampung Gelanggang, Negeri Sembilan. As I was short of time, photo space and batteries, I did not walk to the Laman Megalith. This park is opened from 7am to 8pm during weekdays and until 10pm during the weekends. Mercu Tanda Plaza or Landmark Structure is located inside Putra Perdana Park. It's shape represents the relationship between God, man and the environment. The sphere symbolises the values that we should uphold. The cresent, star and panel behind them shows the importantce of unity among Malaysian towards the development of the nation. This landmark has a historical time capsule. When I was there, the fountains were not on as they were cleaning the fountains. From this area, you can see the view of putrajaya especially areas around Dataran Putra and Wawasan Bridge. Lastly, the Melawati Palace which is situated behind Putra Perdana Park. This palace is the retreat for the Yang Dipertuan Agong / King and Raja Permaisuri / Queen. It has 3 towers and its architecture is of classical Malay palaces and forts. |
