Arau
Kangar is the capital of Perlis State. It can be accessed by road using North-South Highway, turning out at Changloon. At Changloon, take the Kuala Perlis-Changloon Highway. Along this smaller highway, you will pass through Arau, the royal town of Perlis.

I went to Kangar on Merdeka Day. I took a train to Arau and then a bus to Kangar which dropped me at the Bus Station at Kayangan Square along Jalan Tun Abdul Razak. As there was no bus to go Kuala Perlis yet, I went scouting around for the Express Bus Station at Jalan Bukit Lagi.

On the way to Express Bus Station, I passed by many shoplots and Sungai Perlis. There is a chinese temple opposite the bus station and the KWSP building is next to it.

On my way back to Kayangan Square Bus Station, I went to see the Merdeka celebration held outside City Hall Field and Dato Mahmud Mat Building along Jalan Tun Abdul Razak. I went quite late and the celebration was almost finished. I managed to hear some speeches, see bikes and cars paraded passed the main stand. Also, managed to see birds being set free and baloons released into the sky.

I went to Kuala Perlis by Maraliner bus to take a ferry to Langkawi. As I was short of time, I decided to take the available ferry and did not manage to take any photo of Kuala Perlis. Next time.

Arau is the state's royal town. The palace has many big trees blocking it. So, the photo that I took was not good, only the entrance. Haha. Even the Royal Gallery next to it could not be photographed nicely. However, I managed to get a good shot of its back view. Written permission needs to be obtain to enter this Royal Gallery.

The State mosque in Arau is just opposite the palace and the road beside the mosque leads to the Railway Station. The train from Arau towards south departs at 1726 hrs.

Maraliner bus bus schedule :
Kangar to Kuala Perlis : 08:45 to 18:30 hrs, frequency about 1.5 hours.
Kangar to Padang Besar : 08:45 to 17:45 hrs, frequency about 3 hours.
