Darul Ridzuan Museum Birch Memorial Clock Tower
Ipoh has a few historical places to visit. Some of the places I have visited are Ipoh KTM, Ipoh City Hall, Darul Ridzuan Museum and Birch Memorial Tower.

Ipoh KTM is Ipoh's main railway station. It is just a short distance from Medan Kidd, Ipoh bus terminal. It has one counter selling tickets and the toilet is quite clean. However, there is an empty section left there to rot. It was built during tin time in early 1900s and like the KL Railway Station, it has a Moorish design with a big garden in front of it.

Ipoh City Hall is just opposite the railway station. It is also a heritage building built in 1914 and designed by A.B. Hubback with Victorian Neo-Renaissance architecture with Greek and Roman elements on the columns. It is used as a public auditorium since 1962. When I visited this place, renovation / reconstruction was taking place as shown in the photo. Walking further up, you will see St Michael Institution which is a heritage building completed in 1927 and known for its Neo-Gothic architecture.

Darul Ridzuan Museum is located about 1.5 km from Medan Kidd, Ipoh bus terminal. It is a small museum with 2 floors. The upper floor is mainly on Perak's Forests. It shows the different types of forest in Perak like the tropical rainforest, the mangrove forest and their recreational forest. The first section shows the products from the rainforest like the woods that can be obtained from the forest, the animals and birds that can be found there. The second section shows the products from the mangrove forest like things made of rattan. Another section shows Perak recreational Forest like Bukit Larut Recreational Forest, Lata Iskandar, Ulu Kinta Recreational Forest and Kuala Woh Recrational Forest Lata Kekabu Recrational Forest. It also has an article on Ipoh tree.

The ground floor of Darul Ridzuan Museum is mainly on history of Ipoh, Ipoh City Council, tin mining history, methods and the tin ores with some displays of cloths. This museum was previously the house of tin miner Foo Choong Yit. It was built in 1926 on a 4 acres land. Walking further up, there is an orange coloured building. It is the Old Federal Building which is a heritage building built in 1899 designed by C.H Labrooy. It is a Neo-Classical Architecture with Roman pillars.
Birch Memorial Sign Board Bougainvilla Park opposite Ipoh Parade

The Birch Memorial Clock Tower is just opposite the State Mosque. This place especially the Heritage Sign board was not maintained at all. It gives me a feeling that there are some people who do not want people to know about this clock. Lastly, there are some parks in Ipoh like D.R.Seeninasagam Park which is quite big. Bougainvillea Park and Japanese Garden are small parks.
