Tioman Island and many of the islands surrounding it are islands of Tioman Marine Park. Some of the islands are Labas, Sepoi, Chebeh, Tulai, Gut, Tokong Bahara, Seri Buat and Sembilang.

Tioman Island is the biggest in this group and have many villages especially on the western coast. Every village has its own jetty. Ferrys that come from Tanjung Gemok and Mersing Jetty will drop passengers at Genting, Tekek, Air Batang and Salang. Tioman Island is an island resort unlike Penang Island nor Langkawi Island as almost all of Tioman's economic activities are tourism based.

Tioman Island has a small airport in Tekek village, the 'town' in Tioman island. Most hotels in Tioman are chalet type. Most of Tioman government departments are in Tekek.

I stayed in one of the cheapest budget hotel in Tekek with breakfast included called Coral Reef Holiday. I wanted to see Air Batang and if possible Salang. On my way north-wards, I passed by the airport which also has a jetty in front of it. Then I passed a road that leads to the trek to Juara. After that I reached the Marine Park Centre where it has a few houses for the marine park staffs. Then I walked a very short trek to Air Batang.

I continued to walk in Air Batang village until I reached the trek to Panuba, that is end of Air Batang village. As it was almost sun down, I had to walk back and did not trek to Salang village because Salang was in my snorkelling package.

Air Batang village is the most beautiful village in Tioman island because of its garden like chalets. The chalets here are budget hotels and they are at least half the price of the budget hotels in Tekek. The reception at Mokhtars Place showed me one of their fan rooms that cost RM20 per night and it looked ok to me. Many of these budget hotels have restaurants too. Westerners love this place and like to hang-out at some restaurants. Though I did not go Paya village, Genting village and Mukut village, I think they are not as beautiful as Air Batang.

Air Batang village has dive centres too which can teach tourist to dive in a day. If I remember correctly, the centre's staff told me that the lesson is for dives not more than 7 m deep for the lesson package which costs about RM200. After that, the person will be given a 'licence' that last for 1 year (if not wrong) to dive not more than 14 m. Anyway, most villages have dives centres that provide such service.

The next day, after snorkelling trip, I walked southwards to Berjaya Tioman Resort and also its suite. On the way there, I passed a few other budget hotels and then on my left is a road to Juara village. After a short walk, I think about 1 km, I reached Berjaya Tioman Resort. The resort has a golf course if not mistaken, an 18 holes course. Shahzan Villa is inside this resort.

The next morning, I trekked to Juara and hired someone to ride me back to Tekek using the road. There were many operators doing snorkelling trips but I could not find any doing trekking especially to Gunung Semukut / Twin Peaks or even Asah Waterfall. They said nobody wanted to go and the charge will be very high because of guide fee. As for Juara, they said the trek is easy to walk and the distance is not far. However, jeep can be hired to Juara.

Tioman is a good shopping place for items that have heavy taxes imposed on them such as wine, beer, many types of liquor and cigarette. It is a duty free island just like Langkawi Island. In Tioman island, these goods are sold about half the price of those outside Tioman island. A big duty free shop is located in Tekek near to the jetty. Duty free goods can also be bought in the airport and some smaller shops in Tekek.
