Pahang is a state located on the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia. Its latitute coordinate is about 3o45'N and longitude coordinate is about 102o30'E. Pahang has population of about 1.543 million (2009 estimates) with about 65% Malays, 15% chinese and 4.4% indians. Majority of its people speaks Bahasa Malaysia / Malay language with some speaking English. Most of the places of interest in Pahang are nature oriented like hill resorts, nature parks, marine parks and adventure areas.

Pahang has a land area of 35,964 km2. The Main Range (Titiwangsa Range) passes through the western side of Pahang. This made Pahang rich in flora, fauna and also natural ecological structures like caves, lakes and rivers. The jungle consists of Tropical Rainforest, Recreational forest and Mangroves forest. The most popular Tropical Rainforest would be Taman Negara / National Park which is one of Malaysia's national parks. There are natural lakes like Lake Bera and Lake Chini. The rivers are also popular for white-water rafting activities. Map of Pahang, Malaysia and Map of Kuantan, Malaysia

Kuantan is the capital of Pahang. It is located around the mouth of Kuantan River facing South China Sea. Due to this, it faces the North-East monsoon from November to March. During this monsoon season, I would recommend you to visit the western side of Pahang that is the hill resorts area.

The western KTM railway track split at Gemas in Negeri Sembilan near Johor border. The eastern side KTM railway track move in the centre of Peninsular Malaysia from Gemas to Tumpat in Kelantan. This eastern railway track passes through Pahang from somewhere near Kemayan in southern Pahang to Merapoh in northern Pahang. The railway track does not pass through Kuantan.

Pahang state airport, Sultan Ahmad Shah Airport is located at south-west of Kuantan. The Makmur Bus Terminal caters mainly for the express bus. Their local bus station is a short distance behind the Makmur Bus Terminal. Kuantan has very few places of interest so I did not take any bus to visit any place.

Kuantan has a number of budget hotels in the centre of its town. The one I stayed just behind Makmur Bus Terminal cost me RM50 per room per night with air-cond. However, I think you cannot find one that cost about RM20 per room. I guess accommodation should not be a problem of very small group travellers and tourists.

Nature lovers and eco-tourist can get away to the National Park on the northern part of Pahang or hill resorts on the western side of Pahang such as Genting Highlands, Bukit Tinggi or Berjaya Hill, Fraser's Hill and Cameron Highlands. Genting Highlands, Bukit Tinggi or Berjaya Hill and Fraser's Hill are near the western border of Pahang with Selangor wherelse Cameron Highlands are near the western border of Pahang with Perak.

During the South-West monsoon, tourist are encourage to Pahang's marine park called Pulau Tioman / Tioman Island marine park and Cherating Beach which is a popular beach resort area. To go to Tioman, take a Kuantan-Mersing express bus and tell the driver to stop at Tanjung Gemok, the jetty in Pahang to go to Tioman Island. Even those want to go Pekan can take this express bus but tell driver ro stop at Pekan.

The royal town of Pahang is Pekan south of Kuantan at the Pahang River banks. It is the home town of Malaysia's second prime minister Tun Abdul Razak Hussein and Malaysia's current prime minister Datuk Seri Abdul Najib Tun Abdul Razak.

I stayed in Kuantan for 1 night only and ate at fast food most of the time because I found their local food quite normal.

Lastly, if you were to visit any where in Pahang, Kindly keep the places clean by throwing your rubbish into rubbish bins.
