There are many places that a visitor can go in the area around Kuala Lumpur Lake Garden. However, there is one place there that many will go because it is the nearest place for them to go for prayers. This place is none other than the National Mosque. Malaysia' National Mosque was built in 1963. When it was completed in 1965, it took over from Jamek Mosque as the main mosque in KL. It was built on a 13 acres land.
The roof of National Mosque's main dome is blue in colour and has a shape of an 18-point star. 13 points represent the 13 states in Malaysia and the 5 points represent the 5 pillars of Islam. Apart from this special shaped dome, it has a minaret which is about 73 m high. This National Mosque is very important because Islam is Malaysia's main religion. can accommodate about 15,000 worshippers. Before entering a mosque, the worshippers must clean themselves using the water pipe outside the mosque. There is standard way of washing oneself from face to hand and legs. Visitors can visit enter this mosque. Shoes cannot be worn inside. For female visitors, they need to wear the scarfs and robes provided by the mosque before entering. Also, there is seperate entrance for the women. |
